Signs to Spot If You Just Had A Great Job Interview

Ever wondered if the job that you applied for liked you? It’s natural to think whether you left a good impression on the person who just interviewed you. You might think it went great on your end or you’ve been replaying your answers over and over in your head, assessing if you did good or bad in the interview.

Just like in dating when you get signals if whether or not the person likes you, you also get signals if your potential employer liked you and your performance in the interview. Because of these signs, it’s possible that you make good, reliable guesses on how you will be moving forward in your application.

You need to spot signs that your interview went well because it either means the company you are applying for is interested to employ you or is ready to move forward with another candidate. These signs show themself during and after the interview. You must note these signs because in the future, you can improve what went wrong in a particular interview and do much better for the next one or even during the current one. If for instance, you get a sense that your interviewer is becoming bored with your interview, you can level it up a notch and engage him or her more. You can ask about their own experiences working for the company, which also gives you a glimpse of the work culture you are about to enter. When you are also able to spot a good interview from a bad one, you can very early on know whether or not you should consider other pending job offers. In your head, you already have an idea if you impressed your interviewer or not which determines whether you should already start entertaining other job offers.

One sign that an interview is going good when it took more than 30 minutes to finish. It’s a sign that your interviewer wants to know as much as possible about you because he or she sees that you fit the job description. It’s not always an indicator of your future with the company but again, if you’re a strong candidate, the length of the interview time is a good factor.

It can also be short because you already answered your questions specifically and on point. They might not need to ask you anymore because you offered the information yourself.

Do not rush when answering interview questions; as much as possible converse and engage professionally and in a light manner that doesn’t cross any boundaries. Expound on your answers.



It’s also a good sign when the interviewer already asked you out on a second interview date. There will be interviewers who will already ask you about your availability for a second interview. This means you are a candidate that they are considering for the position.

When concluding an interview, some interviewers might ask about your availability for a second in-person interview or panel interview with more employees. This is a good sign that they think you're qualified for the role and want to learn more information about you.

Another good sign is that the interviewer or employer follows you up the day after. Remember that you should send a thank you note or email to the employer as a gesture of thanks for considering you for the position. You will most likely get a reply on the same day or the next day if they like to employ you for the position, especially that they don’t want you to go searching for another job.



You will also be able to determine if the conversation had a good flow, if it was natural and did not seem rehearsed at all. You can move from one topic to another, one question to the next. The conversation flows and you do not have to exert that big of an effort to make sure there is no dead silence.

You can also sense from your interviewer’s body language whether he or she likes you for the job. Body language that is positive will most likely establish eye contact with you, nod and smile to your answers, lean forward and have their bodies facing you.

Another sign is when the conversation shifts to personal interests. Yes, you still have to be very professional, but it also helps when you are able to interject topics that are more personally and telling of your personality. This means that you are comfortable with the interviewer and vice versa. Of course, you have to be able to relate your interests and passions in life with what your goals are in your career.



You will also hear praises from your interviewer regarding the accomplishments you listed in your resume or have mentioned during the interviewer. An interviewer who says he or she is impressed with you is most likely hinting why you are a perfect candidate for the job.

Just say a simple thank you as a response and give information that adds to these accomplishments in your interview.

If you are introduced to other candidates, then this is a good sign that your interviewer is highly considering you for the position. They won’t be using their precious time in the office just to congratulate or send a message to those candidates who did not make the cut.

Once you leave the premises and bumps across “future” workmates, you would know it’s a good sign if your future boss slash interviewer did not leave you to your own devices. They had the time to introduce you because he or she is already considering if you will fit the work culture they currently practice.



You can also spot it from the words or language used by the interviewer. Noticing whether he or she uses “when” more instead of “if” is a good indicator that he or she is checking if you’re already prepared for the job.
